Admit it, you know every lyric to Miami, Miami, You’ve Got Style and this sentence has now got you singing it out loud. And you know which St. Olaf story is your favorite. Or you know the exact inflection to get your point across about how Danny Thomas is Lebanese or if you’re serving “Shrimp!” to a dinner guest. If you know what any of this means, you need this original collage. And if you don’t know, you also need this collage while you catch up on your Golden Girls episodes. It’s no Jasper DeKimmel, but at least you don’t have to look at it upside down.

Cory Potter is a Michigan based artist who hoards paper for collage, paint for abstracts, and glitter for both. He is interested in the weird, the bright, the queer, the garish, the strange, and the unconventional and will use anything as an art supply. Much of his work explores the concepts of identity, voice, and connectedness within marginalized communities, pop culture, and the performing arts. Like a squirrel, he is attracted to shiny things and free nuts. He’s been included in numerous Flint Institute of Arts Art School Exhibitions (Flint, MI), Arte Della Morte at Mainsail Collective (Flint, MI 2019), Kaleidoscope of Expression at Pontiac Creative Arts Center (Pontiac, MI 2019), Blick Art Materials Local Artist Winter Showcase (Detroit, MI 2019), Fenton Art Council’s New Directions Exhibition (Fenton, MI 2022), and as one of the featured artists at Rainbow Riot inside the Dark Art Market in Lansing, MI. During 2020, he participated in virtual exhibitions with the Detroit Deltas (Detroit, MI) and the Harvey Milk Festival (Sarasota, FL). Follow him on Instagram at @cup_of_coco.
